Menopause

a natural biological process

Menopause marks the end of your menstrual cycles. It occurs when a woman hasn't menstruated in twelve consecutive months and can no longer become pregnant naturally. It usually begins between the ages of 45 and 55, but can develop before or after this age range. The average age is 51 in the United States.

Menopause is a natural biological process. But the physical symptoms, such as hot flashes, and emotional symptoms of menopause may be disruptive. You may experience difficulties with sleep, lower energy or it may affect emotional health. There are many effective treatments available, from lifestyle adjustments to hormone therapy.

Every woman's menopause experience is unique. You might experience the following symptoms leading up to menopause.

  • Chills
  • Hot flashes
  • Irregular periods
  • Loss of breast fullness
  • Mood changes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep problems
  • Thinning hair and dry skin
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Weight gain and slowed metabolism
