An Integral Part Of Your Health Care Team
Breastfeeding may be 'natural' but it isn't always easy—especially in the beginning. It doesn't matter if you're a first-time mom or a seasoned one. At Stapleton Women's Health Center we have a Certified Lactation Consultant on staff (ALPP).
Numerous studies have shown that breastfeeding protects babies and mothers from illness, and promotes life-long health benefits for the newborn. Breastfeeding also creates a special bond between the mother and baby. We are trained and certified to assist mothers with breastfeeding.
A Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) is dedicated to the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding and human lactation in their work to prevent and solve breastfeeding problems. We understand that breastfeeding works best when it is the cultural norm and when the provider of lactation support and services is culturally competent.
CLCs work within a counseling model, understanding that breastfeeding decisions are made by the mother, who may have values and goals different from the counselor. CLCs work as part of the health care team, ensuring appropriate referrals and recommendations.
